Why PS5 Owners Shouldn’t Worry About Elder Scrolls 6 Microsoft Exclusivity

As usual, we’re a little less than a full announcement, but still it feels like the writing is hanging on the wall here. In an interview with Kotaku yesterday, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer pointed out that the company is on its way to releasing Bethesda games like The older scrolls 6 on PlayStation platforms for the numbers to work, which strongly suggests these games will be Microsoft exclusive when they come out. And while this may seem incredibly annoying to PS5 owners looking to play those massive blockbuster games, the situation is a little more complicated than the this generation equivalent.

Here’s the thing: The older scrolls 6 is far away. Bethesda announced it mainly to keep people from asking questions (good luck), and the company was very confident that there was still a long way to go. It was even clear to the company Starfieldwhat it’s working on beforehand Elder Scrolls 6, is far away. So it’s no leap to imagine that when the game launches we’ll be looking at an entirely different industry, especially when it comes to rapidly evolving cloud games.

While I don’t have a crystal ball to see how people will access xCloud in about 4 years, it’s not exactly a leap to think of it expanding from now on. Microsoft is already developing a web-based solution for xCloud to bypass Apple’s restrictions, and I imagine we’d see something similar on PC and Mac. A dongle or Chromecast-style thing that you can use to get your TV working is likely. And of course there are phones.

It’s not a perfect solution, no. Will this be as good as playing that thing on your shiny next-gen console – or current-gen at this point in time? No, definitely not. In the United States in particular, many customers will experience problems with Internet speed and data restrictions. But there is a big difference between “you will not play this game at all” and “you have to play this game through cloud solutions”. By the time this game comes out there will be more options than if we were in a similar situation in this generation.

Who knows? A functioning federal government might even have worked to expand access to high quality broadband by this point. One can dream. As a sort of separate item, the Xbox Series S is likely to drop to $ 199 at some point, which makes it a little easier to source Xbox hardware.

This, of course, is Microsoft’s strategy: use exclusive content and multiple entry points to build the broadest possible customer base, with Game Pass serving as the center rather than the physical console. So you have a PlayStation first gamer who buys a PS5 at launch or in the first year because they want to play Kriegsgott Ragnarok and all of the other great games from Sony. Finally, Microsoft is releasing some new Bethesda games on its own platforms and that player is looking for either a cloud or hardware-based way to play them and there is a good chance the player will win a Game Pass subscriber. Cloud is designed to make access to games easier than ever, and going forward, exclusive content will be even more of a draw than it is now.

The result is that the marriage of The older scrolls 6 and xCloud is gigantic. I know a lot of people who basically don’t play any other games but have fallen in love with them one way or another Skyrim for its immersive sim-like qualities and the joy of wandering through this vast world. These games aren’t particularly sensitive to input timing, and that should be perfectly fine in the cloud. It’s no leap to imagine massive sales and subscriptions from gamers who don’t own consoles but still want to try them out.
