Sam Querrey has reportedly fled Russia after a positive Covid-19 test and a worrying phone call from Russian authorities.
The news was posted on Wednesday in an 11-tweet thread by New York Times author and host of the “No Challenges Left” podcast, Ben Rothenberg. The news comes just a day after Querrey, ranked 49th, was withdrawn from the St. Petersburg Open due to a positive Covid-19 test.

Querrey, his wife Abby, and his eight-month-old son Ford all tested positive, according to Rothenberg. They worried when they received a call from Russian health officials and were told that they would receive a visit from a doctor and may need to be hospitalized depending on the symptoms they were showing.
This resulted in a sudden action by Querrey, who hired a private jet to take him and his family out of the country.
The belief is that Querrey feared being separated from his child in addition to the risk of hospitalization.
