Study: AstraZeneca vaccine does not affect fertility and childbearing rate

A report in thelancet said that researchers from Oxford University recently analyzed pregnancies that occurred during four clinical trials of the AstraZeneca vaccine from three different countries including the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa. .

Pregnancies were reported in 121 (1%) of the 9,755 participants during these trials. The fertility analysis group included 93 pregnant women, 50 of whom received the AstraZeneca vaccine and 43 of whom received the control vaccine.

The pregnancy outcome analysis group included 107 women, 72 of whom received the AstraZeneca vaccine and 35 received the control vaccine. Pregnancy loss before 23 weeks of gestation was classified as a miscarriage, and baseline characteristics were similar between the two groups, with age and current alcohol use being the largest differences.

The authors found no evidence of an association between vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine and reduced fertility, there was no increase in the rate of miscarriages when compared to the control group, and no stillbirth or stillbirth was reported in either group.
