Connecting Saudi Arabia and the UAE via trains by the end of 2022

The UAE plans to complete the national railway sectors from Fujairah to Ghuwaifat on the borders of Saudi Arabia, by the end of 2022; As announced by Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates.

Al Mazrouei told The National: We will complete the connection from Fujairah to Ghuwaifat on the border with Saudi Arabia by the end of next year.

Etihad Rail said last month that the construction works of Package A, which is 139 kilometers long for the second stage, and linked it via Ghuwaifat to the first stage, which extends 264 kilometers from Habshan to Ruwais; It was completed two months ahead of schedule.

Asked about the time frame for rail linking the UAE and Saudi Arabia to transport goods and passengers in the wider rail network in the GCC, Al Mazrouei said the kingdom is “working hard” on parts of its national rail network.

He said: “We are looking forward to the link between the ‘rail’ operators, and we hope that together we can establish this connection as soon as possible, without providing a timetable for the link between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
