Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - SEOUL — A South Korean court on Sunday dismissed objections from President Yoon Suk Yeol's legal team to an arrest warrant issued against him, local media reported.
The Seoul Western District Court rejected the appeal, which sought to suspend the warrant issued last week for Yoon’s detention.
The warrant remains valid until Monday.
Yun Gap-geun, Yoon's lawyer, announced plans to consider further legal action.
"We will consider whether to file an appeal with the Supreme Court. The dismissal does not mean that the warrants are legally valid," Yun said.
The warrant stems from allegations related to Yoon's Dec. 3 declaration of martial law, which was quickly reversed.
Yoon, 63, was impeached by parliament on Dec. 14 and is now awaiting a Constitutional Court trial that will determine whether he is permanently removed from office or reinstated.
On Friday, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials attempted to execute the arrest warrant but was blocked by presidential security forces.
Yoon’s legal team announced plans to file complaints against the head of the corruption office and police officers involved in the operation.
Yoon has repeatedly refused to cooperate with investigators probing the circumstances surrounding his martial law declaration.
He is the first sitting president in South Korean history to face charges of insurrection and treason, along with a travel ban.
