Islamic terrorism is once again hitting Europe. At least four terrorists opened fire with small arms and even detonated an explosive device in the Austrian capital, Vienna. So far at least 3 people have been killed and dozens injured in at least three areas, one near a synagogue.
Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nihammer announced this morning (Tuesday) that the terrorist killed after the terrorist attack in Vienna is an ISIS-supporting Islamist. The interior minister noted that the terrorist was armed with an explosive belt at the time of the terrorist attack.
The Austrian interior minister also said that 14 people were injured in the incident and that the condition of seven of them was severely defined. “A manhunt is underway for at least one terrorist.” Later that night, Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig announced that “another civilian has died from her injuries at a city hospital.” In the ongoing hunt, five suspects were arrested in carrying out the attack.

A Chabad emissary in the country said that no Jewish casualties were known in the incident and that the police are currently denying that he was targeting the Jewish community.

In an interview with Austrian television, German Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that “an antisemitic motive for the incident should not be ruled out.” Kurtz added that “the attack was carried out by more than one threat, and there are threats that have not yet been caught.” Kurtz asked the public “to stay in the houses and added that the army forces have launched an operation to locate more terrorists.”
The Jewish Community in Vienna (IKG) instructed the Jewish residents not to leave their homes. The president of the Jewish community in Vienna tweeted: “It is not possible to determine whether the synagogue was the target. What is clear is that the synagogue and the offices next to it were closed at the time of the shootings.
