This new leak shows that the 5800X is being benchmarked in CPU-Z, with a single-core result that is sure to raise more than a few eyebrows, as Tum_Apisak pointed out on Twitter.
As you can see, the AMD CPU got a single-thread score of 650 and a multi-thread score of 6,593.What’s so revealing about this single-threaded score is that the number of 650 slightly beats the Intel Core-i9 10900K, which, as you can see on the bar graph above, is 584.
That equates to an 11% win for the Ryzen 7 5800X, considering that this AMD chip has a maximum boost of 4.7 GHz compared to the 10900K, which can reach 5.3 GHz on a single core. When you factor in the substantial 600MHz difference in boost clocks, it only underscores the architectural advances AMD has made with Zen 3-based CPUs.
Incidentally, the 3950X was way behind the 5800X with a result of 524. Needless to say, the response on Twitter was pretty impressed by AMD’s obvious performance here – though we should take this with the usual salty condiments, and in fact not focus too much on a single benchmark score.
Multithread goodness
The multithreaded result is impressive too, and the 5800X clearly outperforms its predecessor, the 3800X, and is 18% faster. The Intel Core i9-10900K is faster in multithreading, of course, but then it’s a 10-core, 20-thread processor compared to 8-cores and 16-threads for the 5800X, so it has considerably more muscle before we even get it come to Intel’s superior clock speeds.
Even so, as Wccftech, who noted all of this, points out, the Intel flagship still only wins around 10% compared to the 5800X (which, of course, is by no means the flagship of the AMD range).
For those interested, the test field for the Ryzen 7 5800X in this case included a Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro motherboard and 32 GB of system RAM that was clocked at 2400 MHz (in other words, conservative).
AMD’s Ryzen 5000 chips will go on sale on November 5th. Initially, the flagships Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X mentioned here will be available. AMD has the Ryzen 5 5600X in the middle.
To say people are excited about these Ryzen chips would be an understatement at this point, and Intel must be concerned to see this leak, and the chip giant will no doubt feel the pressure to bring its Rocket Lake processors to the next Generation sooner rather than later. Intel’s 11th generation CPUs are expected to arrive in early 2021, and the good news is that they should look promising for gamers.
