This Saturday’s bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health records 2,153 more cases of covid-19 (455 less than in the Friday update), 13 dead and 1,853 cured in Portugal. These data are for Friday.

It is the fourth time that the country is above two thousand daily cases, although there is a drop compared to Friday, when a record had been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic (2,608).

In addition to this update, there are 13 more deaths to record, bringing the total to 2,162.

The number of hospitalized patients in hospital wards has also dropped, albeit in just one person, and is now 1,014. The maximum Portugal ever had was on April 16, when 1,302 people were hospitalized.

On the contrary, in the Intensive Care Units there are four more beds occupied, which brings the total to 148 seriously ill patients, the highest number since May 2, when there were 150 patients. The maximum, however, also dates from April – on the 7th, there were 271 people hospitalized in these units.

There are currently 37,974 active cases in the country (287 more), to which are added more than 52 thousand contacts under surveillance by health authorities.

The figures confirm that the virus has now spread more rapidly in the North for several days: 1,124 new cases in the last 24 hours (52.2%). In Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, a further 781 infections were identified (36.2%). In the Center, Alentejo and Algarve, there were 149, 42 and 47 new cases, respectively. In the islands, the Azores make the biggest jump of the month (7), while Madeira adds three more new cases.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in March, the confirmed cases are distributed as follows:

The bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health allows, in addition to realizing that there were more women (53,433) to contract the infection than men (44,622), to monitor the age groups in which the deaths occurred.

Of the 13 reported, seven women and six men, one was in the age group of 50 years. There was also one of the fatal victims who was between 60 and 69 years old, four in their 70s and seven people over 80.
