DUBAI - Authorities in the United Arab Emirates has decided to extend the closure of all commercial activities in Dubai until April 18 in an effort to lessen the spread of the coronavirus, of which there has so far been 2,359 cases.
"The closure of all commercial activities in Dubai will continue until the end of the national disinfection programme on April 18." Dubai Economy, the government regulator of Dubai economic services, said in a tweet on April 7
Dubai Economy added that exempted sectors, including pharmacies, supermarkets and grocery stores will operate as usual.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention announced 283 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 2,359.
"The newly diagnosed patients of various nationalities are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary medical care,'' the health ministry said in a statement, adding that the cases were detected upon examining people who came in contact with previously infected patients and did not adhere to preventive measures or maintain sufficient physical distance as well as stipulations of proper quarantine.
The ministry also announced the death of an Asian citizen who suffered from chronic diseases, bringing the number of deaths in the country to 12. Nineteen new individuals made a full recovery, taking the number of recoveries to 186.
In a related development, Dubai Health Authority, DHA, announced that it has expanded the scope of its "Dawa’ee" medicine home delivery service to now cover the entire country.
DHA launched the service last December, making it the first authority to provide a comprehensive medicine home delivery service that includes a specialised pharmacist traveling to people’s homes to provide counselling and medical advice.
Dr. Ali Al Sayed, director of the Pharmaceutical Services Department at the DHA, said that the Dawa’ee service will be delivering medication 24/7 to elders, People of Determination and those in critical medical conditions.
"DHA is keen to continue developing its services and the authority spares no effort in ensuring the wellbeing of patients especially during this critical time," he added.
