The Mauritius Football Association (MFA) have released a statement, declaring that all their football leagues will be stopped and abandoned.

The world is currently facing the outbreak of the coronavirus which had originated from China and diffused in several countries around the world.

The global pandemic has forced many countries to suspend their footballing activities in order to inhibit the spread of the virus.

On Monday, Mauritius become the first country to cancel their football leagues due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“After considering the opinion of each member and mainly in consultation with the authorities during the past week, it has been, hence, decided that the current season 2019/20 ends up with immediate effect,” an MFA statement said.

It’s worth noting that the number of COVID-19 cases in Mauritius has risen to 268 cases, where eight have managed to recover from the pandemic.
