The Slovenian handball national team has claimed that they had a handful number of players in their squad poisoned due to the hotel food, the claims which were totally refuted by the Denmark team representatives.
World champions Denmark are set to challenge Egypt for a place in the semi-finals when they face each other on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Slovenia had to exit the tournament after a draw against Egypt in the Main Draw’s final game, for the Pharaohs to clinch the spot in the quarterfinal.
Following the game, the Slovenian Handball Federation claimed that they had 12 poisoned players in their team due to the hotel food.
“We are sure this is not coincidence,” the federation said in a statement.
Danish channel TV2 have also stated that Slovenia team manager have warned the Danish national team from eating the hotel food.
However, the director of the Danish Handball Federation laughed off these claims.
“It’s a hilarious accusation because we got pictures of the Slovenian delegation ordering pizza from outside.
“Many teams suffer from stomach issues, and it’s not the Slovenians only. Some teams didn’t face Egypt and had suffered from issues as well.
“The hotel employees are competent and are trying their best to maintain the hygienic atmosphere, and I am sure they will continue doing this before our game against Egypt,” he added.
The 2021 IHF World Championship is held in Egypt from 13 to 31 January 2021 and saw the participation of 32 countries.
