He’ll be looking to continue his middleweight rise on Friday night while taking on Tureano Johnson at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
The unbeaten 24-year-old became world champion for the first time in May 2018 when he defeated Sadam Ali with a breathtaking knockout. Munguia (35-0, 28 KOs) defended the title five times, including wins over Liam Smith, Dennis Hogan and Patrick Allotey before climbing to 160 pounds and producing a TKO for round 11 from Gary O ‘Sullivan on his debut middleweight last January.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic hasn’t allowed busy Munguia to get back in the ring earlier, but he’s excited to do so Friday night, live on DAZN.

At the same time, I trained and improved my skills with my team in the Ceremonial Center in Otomi [Mexico]and I’ll show everyone that Jaime Munguia is ready for the best in the division. ”
To prove it, Munguia will have to get past Johnson (21-2-1, 15 KOs), whose only losses are against middleweight world title challengers Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Curtis Stevens. The battle-hardened veteran stopped Jaime Quigley in the ninth round in July 2019 and vowed that he will also stop Munguia.
