Liverpool injury news and expected return flight dates including Thiago and...

Liverpool will continue their Champions League trophy pursuit tonight. The last European deployment will take place in Anfield.

The winners of the 2018-19 European elite club competition will welcome Denmark’s FC Midtjylland to Merseyside for their second Champions League group D game tonight.

The Reds will face the Danish champions in the middle of an injury crisis, especially at the center of their defense.

Top-notch central defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will miss the Danes’ visit. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho is expected to return to central defense alongside Joe Gomez.

Reds boss Jürgen Klopp informed on Monday afternoon about the restoration of his Crocked Stars. Details are given below.

Virgil van Dijk

The Dutch center-back will be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future with an ACL injury sustained in the Merseyside derby following a terribly high tackle by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Refusing to set a timescale for the defender’s return to the first team, Klopp said recently: “Virgil has been here, he’s fine. But about when the surgery is going to happen and stuff like that, I don’t think it makes sense that we pretty much have a schedule every day.

“But it will be fine and it will happen in due course. That’s it – he’s as good as possible. ”

Joel Matip

The Cameroonian suffered a muscle injury in the 2-2 draw with Everton earlier this month, although his condition is not as bad as initially feared.

However, it won’t be available for tonight’s game.

Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool’s £ 27million summer deal with Bayern Munich sustained a knee injury when the Reds clashed with the Toffees and has since missed the team’s most recent wins against Ajax and Sheffield United.

However, Thiago’s knock isn’t as bad as initially feared, though he’s still not ready to return to the starting XI.

Naby Keita

The Guinean international has not played for the Reds as he has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 on international service.

Keita has since tested negative for the virus but missed Liverpool’s last two games. The former RB Leipzig midfielder won’t play a role tonight but will fight for West Ham’s visit on Saturday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The former Arsenal midfielder is still recovering from the knee injury he sustained in pre-season training, although a date for his return to the first team is still in the air.

“Oxlade is obviously in long-term rehab, but looks good and is usually in a good mood,” said Klopp earlier this month about the England international.
