Well, Lomachenko, the WBC franchise / WBO / WBA lightweight world champion, and Lopez, the IBF defending champion, will finally settle the matter in a nationwide bout on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. Lomachenko’s WBA and WBO titles, as well as Lopez’s IBF belt, will all be at stake.
Although the highly anticipated fight has all the ingredients for a possible fight of the year, Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) went out of her way to stay even throughout the build.
“I think it’s just a ring and judge and television,” he said during Thursday’s press conference.
Boxing’s best pound for pound looks forward to dismantling and negating the explosive Lopez with his world-class boxing skills and footwork.
“For me,” Loma continued, “I think it’s going to be a game of chess.”
Lopez (15-0, 12 KOs) doesn’t think the fight will be anything like that. The undefeated 23-year-old doesn’t even think Lomachenko will be his toughest opponent yet.
“It won’t be my biggest challenge,” Lopez told Stats Perform earlier in the week. “I’ll just adjust to the fighter. I honestly think how much he charges his movement. That’s all it is That won’t be a problem when I see what I see. I adapt to everything quickly. I am ready for fight time. We could fight today and I’m ready. ”
Lopez became the IBF lightweight world champion with a TKO destruction from Richard Commey in the second round in December. A win over Lomachenko would not only earn him two new titles, it would also cement his growing legacy and bring The Takeover tour one step closer to completion.
“The takeover isn’t just a sentence we’re throwing out,” Lopez swore. “This is the part where I lead the new generation. Winning this is a stamp and a sign of the new era. ”
Will Lopez take the throne in an explosive manner, or will Lomachenko reiterate that boxing exists and that Lopez is not of the same caliber?
