“Obviously he was a top center forward in his day,” added Scholes. “There is no doubt about that. But he’s 33 years old and looked like he’s about to retire. He didn’t play much football for PSG last season.
“Five, six years ago, yeah, he’s a great addition, he’ll possibly take us to the next level. But I just don’t think he’s going to take us to the next level now.
“But that’s what Manchester United seem to be now, it seems – I think of the strikers we have … Cavani, he should be a loan signer.
“If you’re struggling without a center-forward, it should be a two- or three-month loan signing to get you through a rough patch.”
