Thank you for reading the news about Zamalek held to thrilling draw against Smouha and now with the details

- Yasmine El Tohamy - Zamalek were held to a last minute 3-3 draw against Smouha SC in game-week 26 of the Egyptian Premier League.

Due to Zamalek’s heavy schedule, French manager Patrice Carteron is forced to rotate his starting 11 nearly each game.

This was seen today as many traditional starters such as Mostafa Mohamed, Mahmoud Alaa, Achraf Bencharki and Hazem Emam missed out on the squad.

Meanwhile, Mostafa Fathi captained the Whites in his first start in the Egyptian Premier League this season and Emam Ashour also made his return as his 10-match ban ended.

Zamalek started the game on the right foot as just four minutes in they got their first shot on target when Osama Faisal met Abdallah Gomaa’s cross with a powerful header.

In an organized counter attack, Smouha responded in the 16th minute when Hossam Hassan’s low shot grazed the right post.

In the 18th minute, Abdallah Gomaa faked a cross and dribbled through the opposition’s defense inside the penalty area before passing the ball to Kabongo Kasongo who put the ball into the back of the net.

Hossam Hassan put the scores back level in the 36th minute after receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area. In a seemingly impossible situation, the Smouha skipper brilliantly past through Mohamed Abdelghani.

His first shot was saved by Mohamed AboGabal and even though he was outnumbered he still managed to get the follow up before eventually scoring in his first attempt.

Two minutes before the half-time whistle, Mostafa Fathi’s curved cross was directed towards the near post in order to surprise goalkeeper El-Hany Soliman. In an attempt to clear the ball, Hossam Hassan put the ball into his own net to give his opponents the upper hand.

Three minutes into the second-half, Kasongo took a low long ranger but his shot was easily grabbed by Soliman.

In the 52nd minute, Uganda international, Derrick Nsibambi, found himself alone inside the penalty area but just as he was about to shoot Mohamed Abdelghani made a heroic tackle.

In the 66th minute, Kasongo made the most out of a mistake made by the Smouha midfield and put the ball on the right wing to Mohamed Ounajem.

The Moroccan made a first time low cross into the near post which was met by Mostafa Mohamed who made a good run to give Zamalek a two-goal lead.

Al Ahly loanee Nasser Maher produced a precise cross to former Zamalek striker Ahmed Hassan Mekky inside the penalty area who placed the ball in the far post.

Three minutes before the full-time whistle, Nasser Maher played a through ball to Hossam Hassan who chipped AboGabal with a header to gift his side the draw.

Following the result Zamalek remain second on the Egyptian Premier League table with 54 points, 14 behind leaders Al Ahly. Their next game will be on Sunday September 13th against 10th-placed Entag El-Harby at the Cairo International Stadium.
