Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030, and to achieving effective digital transformation, which is one of the main pillars of achieving the Kingdom’s vision 2030.
This came in the Kingdom’s speech during the general debate yesterday, the item “Economic and Environmental Issues: Harnessing Science and Technology for Development Purposes”, within the work of the Second Economic and Financial Committee during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was delivered by the Third Secretary within the Kingdom’s permanent delegation to the United Nations, Reem Al Omair. Al-Omair explained that the digital transformation program aims to build a digital society and create digital platforms to enrich effective community interaction and participation in a way that contributes to improving the development of the industry, improving competitiveness and positive impact on the economic situation, generating jobs, providing better services to the beneficiaries, and creating a digital nation by attracting Local and global investments and partnerships in the fields of technology and innovation.
She said, “The Kingdom pays great attention to the field of communications and information technology, as digital technology has become an essential tool in our societies, and a means on which many people depend in their daily lives,” pointing to the qualitative leaps that the communications and information technology sector in the Kingdom has witnessed over the past years. On the level of digital infrastructure, digital capacity development, and mega digital projects. Al-Omair added: The world today is undergoing qualitative transformations in the areas of the digital revolution, so the relevant authorities in the Kingdom, including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, have worked on various projects to spread digital knowledge, enhance technical content, and activate the role of specialized technical communities in all that is new in the field of technology to achieve development. The Ministry has launched many projects, including the Digital Giving Initiative that aims to spread digital awareness and digital literacy by building a volunteer community of trainers and volunteers for the digital knowledge industry, and sharing it with various groups of society through training activities and programs, and the technical thinking initiative that aims to spread Awareness of the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to achieve sustainable development and build a dynamic and effective digital society.
The Kingdom also established the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence, out of its belief in the importance of the digital field, while the Authority recently adopted five national data governance policies, including the data classification policy that aims to protect national data and its confidentiality, and the personal data protection policy that regulates the collection, processing and sharing of personal data. In order to ensure the preservation of the privacy of the owners of this data and the protection of their rights, as well as the preservation of the digital national sovereignty over this data, the data sharing policy that aims to enhance data sharing to achieve integration between government agencies, and the freedom of information policy that aims to regulate the exercise of the right to access the beneficiaries to public information From government agencies, and an open data policy that enables data to be made available to all beneficiaries – entrepreneurs, researchers, academics and other interested parties – according to what was stated in the Kingdom’s speech within the work of the Second Economic and Financial Committee at the United Nations.
