Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - MOSCOW — A bomb attack at an upscale restaurant in central Moscow killed three people and injured at least 21 others on Saturday evening, prompting Mayor Sergei Sobyanin to describe the explosion as a "brutal terrorist act."

In a statement on Sunday, Sobyanin said the victims were receiving treatment in city hospitals but did not identify those responsible for the attack.

The blast occurred at the Balzi Rossi restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square, where Russian authorities said three people, including the suspected female bomber, were killed.

Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee said at least 21 people were wounded in the explosion.

According to Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti, the woman allegedly attempted to bring an explosive device into the restaurant, but a security guard prevented her from entering before the bomb detonated.

The Moscow Investigative Committee said the incident remains under investigation.

No individual or group had claimed responsibility for the attack as of Sunday afternoon.

RIA Novosti reported that the restaurant had been hosting a private event at the time of the explosion. Footage released by Russian state media showed heavily armed security personnel, ambulances and emergency responders at the scene.
