Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - MANILA — Typhoon Trami, locally known as Tropical Storm Kristine, has displaced and affected over 5.7 million people in the Philippines, with the death toll rising to 85, local media reported on Sunday.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, more than 5.78 million individuals —equivalent to over 1.41 million families— have been affected by the storm across 8,895 villages, as reported by the Manila Times.

In response to the crisis, approximately 91,189 families have been relocated to shelters in evacuation centers, with 158 cities and municipalities placed under a state of emergency.

The current death toll stands at 85 nationwide, with 33 individuals injured and 26 still reported missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in various affected areas.

The tropical storm has also impacted 520 roads and 84 bridges while causing damage to 27,640 houses across multiple regions.

As recovery efforts continue, local authorities reported that a new tropical storm, Leon, is moving westward at 30 kilometers per hour (18.6 miles per hour) over the Philippine Sea. It is expected to gradually intensify over the next 24 hours and may develop into a severe tropical storm by Monday and a typhoon by Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. — Agencies
