As part of the redistribution of cards in the post-Covid-19 global production chain, Nexans, a global group specializing in electrical wiring, is inaugurating a new production plant for fiber optic cable accessories in Morocco.
The Nexans group is strengthening its industrial presence in Morocco with the inauguration of a new factory for its Telecom Systems Business Unit. This establishment adds five of the French group’s production sites.
The new site, built on a 6,000 m2 site, has a production workshop of 3,000 m2. It has mobilized a global investment of 6 million euros and will employ between 250 and 300 people by 2022.
“This new investment in Morocco testifies to Morocco’s competitiveness and the resilience of the national industrial sector in the current context of crisis. This investment is in line with the European strategy for rationalizing the supply chain, ”explains Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy.
Ultimately, this factory “will bring together an entire ecosystem around it with the objective of further developing this sector in Morocco. This will consist in working on the optical fiber itself, on the boxes, not doing the editing but the production.
The opportunities are there, the skills no longer need to be demonstrated, Morocco’s ability to attract a certain number of investors in these advanced technological fields is within our reach, ”added the Minister. Morocco has ambitious integration objectives in the fiber optic industry.
The ecosystem aims to improve local integration rates.
This inauguration comes as part of the post-Covid-19 development of Morocco’s strategy of developing value chains with Europe. As part of the redistribution of cards in the global production chain, a number of factories will be moved from China to other destinations including Morocco. This factory is an example.
“Of all the activities carried out on this Midparc site, some were in the past carried out in China,” explains Jean-Christophe Monatlik, Industrial Operations & Supply Director Telecom Systems BU at Nexans.
Located in the industrial acceleration zone of Nouaceur Midparc, this new Nexans Interface Maroc plant will produce, during the second quarter of 2021, connectorization accessories for fiber optic cables for FTTH, 4G and 5G, Data center and LAN (computer network) applications. local).
The opening of the site will help meet the growing demand for advanced connectivity solutions and strengthen the positioning of the Moroccan industrial base on advanced technologies.
The production from this plant will serve the European, North African and West African markets.
The establishment of this new production unit also responds to a desire to get closer to customers of the Telecom and Datacom product range for better control of delivery times, but also to achieve gains in competitiveness and quality.
The company’s customers include large groups such as Maroc Telecom, Orange, Inwi, Bouygues, Huawei, etc.
The latter use these products in their Telecom networks, whether in street cabinets, post boxes, terminal sockets for connections to the Box… “This investment allows us to pursue our development strategy in this fast-growing region and to have a local presence on the North and West African market”, underlines Julien Hueber, Executive Vice-President of the Industry business group solutions and projects from Nexans.
The choice of Morocco responds to a logic of complete networking of Europe and now Africa, for the Telecom activity of Nexans. This plant will allow the Nexans group to increase its production capacity, while expanding its product range, and offer new services to better satisfy its customers: supply chain optimization services, component pre-cabling and connectorization of cables.
Strong increase in activity
Nexans Interface Maroc is 100% owned by Nexans participation.
