The Oregon Health Authority announced last week that the state has had the highest weekly number of new confirmed and suspected coronavirus cases.
For the week from Monday, October 26th through Sunday, November 1st, OHA reported 3,542 new known cases of COVID-19. That was an increase of 34% compared to the previous week.
This is the second straight week that daily coronavirus cases have hit a record high since the pandemic began, OHA said.
The state recorded a test positivity rate of 8.4% last week. The test positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive for the virus compared to the total number of people tested. For the past week, Oregon had a test positivity rate of 6.5%, according to the OHA.
Oregon is well on its way to seeing another week of increased coronavirus cases, according to OHA data. On Monday, OHA reported 557 new known cases. There were 495 new known cases on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the OHA reported an additional 597 new known cases.
The state now has a total of 47,049 known coronavirus cases and 705 coronavirus-related deaths.
The majority of these new cases came from the Portland metropolitan area on Wednesday. 172 cases were reported in Multnomah County, 57 cases in Washington County, and 54 cases in Clackamas County.
OHA said Wednesday that some of these new cases in Clackamas County came from an outbreak at the county’s Fred Meyer Distribution Center. So far, 39 cases have been linked to the outbreak, which began October 22nd.
