The “Bayraktar Aengi” attack drone, manufactured locally in Turkey, successfully tested fully autonomous takeoff and landing from a remote runway that did not have a ground control station.

“This test is the first of its kind,” the Turkish company Baykar said in a statement on Wednesday.

It stated that the plane “reached a remote runway with the aim of testing its ability to land and take off from another runway that does not have a ground control station, after carrying out tests to determine the system at an altitude of 20 thousand feet at the company’s headquarters at the Air Command Center in the state of Çorlu, northwestern Turkey.”

“Baykar’s technical director, Selcuk Baykar,” explained that the prototype of the Aengi plane “took off from Chorlu and they carried out tests to determine the system at a medium altitude, then they did landing tests in a remote runway.”

He added, “It first approached and passed at a low altitude, then on the second attempt it lowered its wheels onto the floor of the runway to take off again, and now it will return to land at Chorlo.”

It is noteworthy that the Turkish company carried out the first flight test of the first model of the drone on December 6, 2019.

The integration process of the third model of the “Baykar Akinji” project, of which the first batch is scheduled to be delivered by the end of the year, continues at the Research, Development and Production Center of the “Baykar” company.

Upon completion of the third model integration process, it will be sent to the Air Force Command Center in Chorlu State for test flights.
