Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, won Michigan state by snatching 16 electoral votes for him in the US presidential race.
Biden’s vote in the electoral college rose to 264, compared to 214 for his Republican rival, Donald Trump, according to Fox News.
Biden now needs only six votes from the electoral college to decide the race to the White House.
And so far, 5 states remain unresolved: Alaska, Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
The American elections are held indirectly. There is an “electoral college” that includes what are known as “major voters”, and they number 538, with the exception of Nebraska and Maine, as they are the only ones that divide the electoral college votes according to the percentage of votes that each candidate gets.
Each state has a specified number of “senior electors” equal to the number of its representatives in the House of Representatives and Senate, and any candidate who wins the votes of the state’s citizens reaps its share of the “senior electorate.”
In order for any candidate to win the office, he must obtain the absolute majority of the “senior electorate” votes, that is, 270 votes.
Trump campaign declares victory in Pennsylvania
In a related context, Bill Stephen, the campaign manager of US President Donald Trump, announced that the latter had won in Pennsylvania.
In statements to reporters, Stephen said that Trump’s performance in Pennsylvania, whose winner receives the votes of 20 delegates from the electoral college, is greater than it was in 2016 and that his votes are still rising.
He added, “We have high confidence in the matter of preserving our lead in greater numbers. In fact, we announce our victory in Pennsylvania. This does not depend only on feelings and what is inside, but on the account.”
He continued: “Based on the data available to us, the probability that the difference (between Trump and Biden) remains higher than 100,000 votes is 70 percent, and the probability that it exceeds 150 thousand is 50 percent.
