Rapid fan (37) missing in Mexico for weeks – Vienna

“Where is Florian Kafka from Vienna?” This question is not only asked by his family at Christmas, but also by the police. The 37-year-old Rapid fan is missing in Mexico. For two weeks there has been no sign of life from the 1.80 meter tall doctor’s son.

According to the “Kronen Zeitung”, Kafka wanted to escape the lockdown in Austria and instead enjoy the sun in Mexico. But when the 37-year-old did not inquire about the game result of his favorite football team, as he always did, and he did not answer by phone, his father was finally puzzled and reported his son to the police as missing, the report said.

Abandoned rental car found

There has been no trace of the Viennese since December 10th. According to the police, Kafka was traveling alone, his phone was switched off. “The 37-year-old drove a rental car from the metropolis of Mexico City north to the state of Sonora,” Gerhard Lang, spokesman for the Federal Criminal Police Office, told the “Kronen Zeitung”.

The vehicle could later be found in the small town of Benjamin Hill – but the car was abandoned and there was nothing from Kafka in it. At this point in time, local security authorities cannot rule out that the vacationer was kidnapped by drug cartels. Sonora is one of the strongholds of the Mexican drug cartels.

Worried family

The criminals usually proceed in the same way: either they withdraw money up to the maximum limit with the bank card of their kidnapped victims or they extort a ransom. Whether Florian Kafka, who has a Rapid Wien tattoo on his left chest, was really kidnapped is unclear and is the subject of the investigation. In any case, his relatives are very worried about the 37-year-old, but have not yet given up hope.
