Joe Biden has been declared the winner in the tipping state of Michigan, and then he is only six voters away from victory.
Five states can now decide who will be the next president of the United States: Donald Trump or challenger Joe Biden.
Biden has 264 voters, while Trump has 214. The candidate who reaches 270 voters wins the presidential election.
Joe Biden now only needs Nevada, a state he leads, to get 270 voters. Or either Georgia, North Carolina or Pennsylvania.
Nevertheless, the victory is not yet secured, and only decimals separate the two candidates in a number of states.
Arizona and Michigan to Biden
In the VG graphic that shows the distribution of voters in the presidential election, at the time of writing it says 253 for Biden and 213 for Trump.
This graphic is based on data provided by the news agency DPA.
Our own overview, which is based on what the American media Associated Press, CNN, Fox News, NBC News and the New York Times report, shows that Biden has 264 voters against 214 for Trump.
The reason for this is that 11 voters from Arizona are in favor of Biden here, but not in the graphics. Both the AP and Fox News have determined that Biden wins Arizona, and the data we see from the districts of this state support this.
The ten districts where Trump receives the most support have both low population numbers and are largely finished counting. In the two largest municipalities, Maricopa and Pima, Biden obtains 52.3 and 60.2 per cent of the votes, respectively. There are also more votes left to count here than in the rest of the state.
Biden already leads with 3.4 percent in Arizona and will apparently increase this difference.
Status of the remaining states
The extra electorate that Trump lacks in the graphics comes from Maine, where the New York Times, among other things, gives Trump one electorate and Biden three.
VG obtains its figures from the news agency DPA, which updates its figures somewhat later than, for example, Fox News.
In these states, the Battle of the White House (number of voters in parentheses) is:
- I Nevada (6) Trump takes on Biden, who has a narrow lead of 0.6 percentage points and just under 8,000 votes. The state will not count any more until Thursday morning.
- I Pennsylvania (20) leads Donald Trump by five percent when 86 percent of the votes are reported. In this state, Biden takes on the American president.
- I North Carolina (15) leads Trump by 1.4 percentage points. According to the New York Times, there is an 86 percent chance that Trump will win the state, with 94 percent of the votes reported.
- I Georgia (16) 96 percent of the votes in the state have been reported, and so far Trump leads by 1.4 percentage points, but the New York Times believes that Biden ends up winning here.
- In addition remains Alaska (3), where Trump has significant leadership.

Claims victory in several unresolved states
Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday night to declare victory in Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan. He further claims that ballot papers have been dumped in secret, for which there is no evidence. Nor has anyone else declared Trump victory in these four states, even though he leads in three of them.
Biden, in turn, tweeted “count every vote.” He thinks there will be enough voters for him to walk away with the victory, but we do not declare anything yet.
“Democracy is the heartbeat of this nation,” he said in a speech on Wednesday.
The head of the OSCE’s election observers in the United States criticizes Donald Trump for undermining confidence in democracy with his allegations of electoral fraud.
– Unsubstantiated allegations of systematic shortcomings, especially from the incumbent president, including on election night, damage the population’s trust in democratic institutions, says Michael Georg Link.
