Today, Stress Awareness Day is celebrated. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified stress as the “21st century health epidemic”, affecting more and more people globally and constituting an inescapable reality in today’s world.

The date was created by the ISMA (International Stress Management Association) in 1998, in the United Kingdom.

The employee is encouraged to talk with his company about the stress he knows in the performance of his work, while the company is invited to adopt measures that mitigate that same stress.

The objectives of the date are to provide information about stress and to raise awareness of the importance of well-being for the individual, sharing strategies to combat stress to organizations and the individual.

It is recalled that “burnout” (or professional stress) entered the new international classification of diseases of the WHO, which will take effect from 1 January 2022, and appears in the section devoted to “problems associated” with employment and unemployment, being described as “a syndrome resulting from chronic ‘stress’ at work that has not been successfully managed’.

The disease, according to the WHO, is characterized by “a feeling of exhaustion, cynicism or negative feelings related to work and reduced professional effectiveness”.
