The Bank of Ireland introduces Apple Pay

Bank of Ireland customers can finally use Apple Pay to make transactions after the lender announced that it has rolled out the technology on their platform.

The move follows the launch of the bank’s new mobile app for customers who are users of devices running Apple’s iOS operating system.

“This is another important addition to our digital payment offering following the introduction of the new mobile app. We look forward to bringing more new features to our customers in the coming months, ”said Christine Hamill, Director of Business Transformation at Bank of Ireland.

The wait for Bank of Ireland customers has been a long one.

Apple Pay was first launched in the Irish market in 2017 through Ulster Bank and KBC before it was added by AIB.

However, due to the Bank of Ireland’s technology infrastructure, the technology could not be used and the bank underwent a major IT overhaul.

The introduction of the Bank of Ireland means Permanent TSB will be the last of the major retail banks not to offer this service, although today it announced it will add it in the coming weeks.

With Apple Pay, customers can pay for goods and services with their iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch or by clicking icons on certain shopping websites.

It is seen as a convenient and secure way to conduct transactions without having to process cash, cards, or touch buttons on a card terminal.

Google and Samsung, among others, offer a similar service.

To set up Apple Pay, Bank of Ireland customers need to open the Wallet app on their device, tap + and follow the steps to add their credit or debit cards.
