Norway pays emergency aid to Nagorno-Karabakh – VG

Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) demands a ceasefire and respect for international law in Nagorno Karabakh, where Azerbaijan is said to have “exempted” eight villages from Armenian control.

The government announced on Monday afternoon that Norway will contribute NOK 17 million to humanitarian organizations that work to protect and assist those hardest hit in the conflict.

– We expect the parties to respect humanitarian law and facilitate that humanitarian actors have safe and unhindered access. It is crucial to protect and help the many who are affected, says Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide in a statement.

The money from Norway will ensure that vulnerable children have access to emergency items such as warm clothes and psychosocial support in Goris in Armenia.

– Norway is in dialogue with the Norwegian Red Cross about possible support for the Red Cross and Red Crescent’s humanitarian work in affected areas. Norway will also support the appeal from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as the organization Halo Trust, which works to protect civilians from landmines and other explosives, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
