In 2017, the class company DNV GL (formerly Veritas) gave KMN Helge Ingstad a new class certificate until 2021. The approval came after a 5-year inspection carried out in 2016.
In the AIBN’s preliminary report on the accident, it was revealed that the hollow propeller shafts led to water being able to spread quickly. The Ministry of Defense believes that DNV GL should have revealed this, writes Teknisk Ukeblad.
On the day one year after the accident, the summons was sent. The trial was stopped this spring pending a final report from the AIBN. A new time for the main hearings in Oslo District Court has been set from 21 September to 29 October next year.
Chalotte Bjørn, Head of Communications at DNV GL – Maritime Northern Europe, confirms the summons to Teknisk Ukeblad. She explains that the class admission is based on drawings and information that they received from the Armed Forces.
– We have thoroughly reviewed the case and believe the claim is unfounded. There is no basis for liability, nor is there a causal connection between the class admission DNV GL was responsible for and Helge Ingstad’s shipwreck and subsequent loss, she writes.
