Defend the values of the Republic
To show its support and defend freedom of expression, the Occitanie region has decided to publish cartoons that have appeared in Charlie Hebdo. The decision was taken by Carole Delga, the president of the region, who wished to defend the values of the Republic.
This approach is linked to the project to distribute a book of political and religious caricatures in all high schools in France.
“In our Republic, there can be no arrangement with secularism, freedom of expression and freedom of conscience which are at the heart of our republican model”, tweeted the politician.
6 cartoons and a photo
On hotel facades in Montpellier and Toulouse, 6 Charlie Hebdo caricatures were projected. Among them, drawings that Samuel Paty had shown to his students, as well as the famous one “All is forgiven”, published after the attacks in the newspaper.

Alongside the cartoons, a photo of the teacher was also projected, with the caption “Solidarity with all teachers in France”. Hundreds of passers-by gathered to look at these drawings and reflect, as well as police and journalists.
In the region, security measures around high schools have been reinforced.
