Cavan’s 14-day incidence rate for Covid-19 is over 1,000

A Cavan doctor said general practitioners in the county are “almost overwhelmed” as the 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 people topped 1,000.

Dr. Dara Hume, a general practitioner at Drumalee Family Practice in the town of Cavan, described the county’s virus incidence rate as “frightening.”

The number is calculated from the 2016 census data, which found that Cavan had 76,176 residents.

There have been 772 positive cases in the county in the past two weeks, giving an incidence rate of 1,013.4.

This means that according to the latest population information, more than 1 in 100 people in the county tested positive for the virus in the past 14 days.

Today’s cases, 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population, and new cases in the past 14 days (as of midnight, October 20) (incidence rate based on 2016 county’s census)

Dr. Hume said while the numbers appeared to be decreasing in her practice, colleagues reported a significant number of clusters in cities around the county.

“People have been really good at tracking action in stores, but I think they drop their guard in familiar surroundings like meeting neighbors or other gatherings,” said Dr. Hume.

She said it needs to be investigated why the incidence rate in Cavan is the highest in the country.

“I think the main problems are large gatherings like after GAA games and our proximity to the border must be another factor,” she said.

“We have to do something and that is why we are banned. Hopefully we will see a decrease in the number. ”

She said the local GP experience has become even more difficult today due to contact tracing issues.

“It’s absolutely busier. We are absolutely in full swing and then it was a pandemic when the backlog on contact tracing was announced, ”she added.
