That support is why the management of Persimmon in Providence believe the blankets will make a difference.
“We have around 90, which is pretty good,” said Kevin O’Connor, the restaurant’s dining room manager. “Definitely a great help, especially now that the time has finally come.”
The Rhode Island Hospitality Association has partnered with Ocean State Job Lot to distribute 12,000 blankets, 370 outdoor heaters, hand warmers, and PPE to restaurants that have applied to participate.
“For two days, we had all day, morning, and afternoon pickups,” said Dale Venturini, president of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association. “So that they can extend their season, because at the moment every day counts.”
And she says the economy expects restaurants to do well.
“We’re just asking the public to save their special restaurant,” said Venturini. “Restaurants bring people, people bring life, people and life bring security. You will see that restaurants are the driving force behind the economy. ”
She adds that other states are starting programs here that are inspired by the BYOBlanket initiative. And she says there was so much demand that they might open it to more restaurants soon.
