“It will be an unprecedented operation in Slovakia. If we decide that it must be a mandatory test, we must change the law ”, said the prime minister in Bratislava, the capital of the country that has 5.5 million inhabitants.

In the last week, the country recorded a total of 9,394 cases, totaling, according to the most recent data, more than 28,000 official cases since the beginning of the pandemic, including 82 deaths.

The bulletin released today records 1,968 cases and 11 new deaths, the highest number of fatalities with covid-19 since the first death on April 1.

On Sunday, the Council of Ministers will meet in an extraordinary session to agree on the details of this testing, deciding whether it will be voluntary or mandatory, according to the head of government and leader of the conservative populist and common people group (OLaNO), who added that the tests would be free.

“We fear that there are people who do not believe in the coronavirus and, although they wear a mask, do not accept the closure of restaurants and other measures. They are the most dangerous, because even with symptoms they don’t go to the doctor ”, said the prime minister, quoted by Efe.

Matovic said the tests will be quick and will be carried out in places where citizens usually go to vote.

The Government intends to develop a plan to prevent crowds of citizens at the testing sites.

Next weekend, a pilot test will be carried out in three locations in the country, with the Government intending to test the rest of the population during the weekend of October 31 and November 1.

The prime minister warned that failure to perform the test would result in the loss of social benefits or tax cuts.

For this program, members of the armed forces will be deployed, following a recently approved law that allows for the daily call of 1,500 soldiers.

Outside this test are children under 10 years old.

According to the Prime Minister, Slovakia has acquired 13 million antigenic tests.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 1.1 million deaths and an additional 39.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
