Shlomo Suleiman died at his home in the town of “Netanya” in central Israel, on Sunday, leaving behind 6 children and dozens of grandchildren.
The Hebrew newspaper, Yediot Aharonot, reported today, Monday, that Suleiman immigrated from Yemen to Israel in 1949 and joined the army, before retiring and working in agriculture.
His wife died several years ago at the age of 94.
On the secret of the longevity of Shlomo Suleiman, his grandson Gil Radia said that Suleiman did not eat much, and he used to eat a piece of bread and cheese in the morning and a small amount of chicken or fish for lunch, and some salad in the evening, and that he used to walk long distances every day.
The grandson added that his grandfather “was forced in recent months to stay inside his home due to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic … he loved life and loved to go out, and I thought that isolation and loneliness caused the deterioration of his health and then his death.”
The newspaper pointed out that Solomon was born in 1903, which means that he was one of the oldest centenarians in the world, noting that the oldest person currently is Japanese Ken Tanaka, who is 117 years and 117 days old.
