The Libyan National Army announced, at dawn on Thursday, that it would prevent direct flights from Mitiga and Misurata airports to Sabha airport.

The Director of Moral Guidance in the Libyan Army, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, said: “In light of the Muslim Brotherhood’s use of Libyan planes and airlines to transport mercenaries and even ISIS and their clear targeting of the south, and after the confrontations in the Abd al-Kafi neighborhood with militants who exploit the borders and smuggling operations, and in the lack of an airport Sabha, with the necessary technology and security situation that the armed forces are working to improve, prevented the plane from landing.
Al-Mahjoub added in a post on his “Facebook”, that “due to the sensitivity of the stage, it was stipulated that the various Libyan airlines’ planes should not come directly from the airports of Mitiga or Misrata, except after making sure that they do not carry anything that leads to the infiltration of militants.”
He pointed out that “this procedure applies temporarily, and includes that flights to the south pass through Benina Airport in the city of Benghazi, due to the necessities of the security check.”
He said, “Whoever demands the opposite is either not aware of the seriousness of what he is asking for, or he has goals in undermining security and supporting terrorism.”
He continued, “This temporary measure comes in the interest of the General Command to achieve the security of the region, to cut off the road to terrorism from arriving and to support its presence in light of the lack of official state control over the airports in the western region, and this is what all citizens who traveled through these airports know.”
He stressed, “We are now in a highly sensitive stage, and this is a fierce enemy that does not care if he detonates a plane or commits suicide operations, does not concern himself with the lives of people and exploits the gatherings to inflict the largest number of losses.”
And Libyan media reported earlier that Afriqiyah Airways suspended its flights from Mitiga to Sabha, after a plane carrying 100 passengers was prevented from landing at Sabha airport.
