In a promotional video posted on Monday, Mercedes said its new electric car will be able to travel more than 620 miles before it needs to be recharged, which means it will exceed the range of the Lucid Air Dream Edition by more than 100 miles, and the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus” at approximately 220 miles.
The company stated that the car only needs less than 10 kilowatt-hours to travel up to 62 miles, saving in excess of 6 miles per kilowatt-hour.
She explained that the battery size is half the size of the company’s previous electric model “EQS”, and also about 30% lighter, noting that, with that, it still has a capacity of approximately 100 kilowatt-hours.
“The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX is the concept with which we envision the future of electric vehicles,” said company president Ola Kallenius.
Teams from Mercedes’ research and development centers collaborated with Formula 1 and Formula E engineers to manufacture the new car.
The teams intensified their efforts to reduce the weight of the car significantly by eliminating excess materials, the wheels are made of magnesium and the brake discs are made of aluminum alloy.
The company also used recycled vegetable materials in its new model.
Moreover, on the roof of the car there is a panel that includes 117 solar cells, which the company explained that this panel can add more than 15 miles of range on long trips.
Solar energy is also stored in a “lithium-iron-phosphate” battery, and is used to control the climate, lighting, entertainment and other properties.
As for the interior, the car’s infotainment system includes a single screen that spans the entire width of the cabin with a size of 47.5 inches and a resolution of 8K.
Mercedes has also worked with NAVIS Automotive Systems on a navigation system with zoom and scroll functions that includes satellite display.
The “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant is also integrated into the infotainment system.
The in-car audio system is designed to be more efficient and powerful than conventional audio setups, with each headrest containing two broadband amplifiers.
The company added a new feature that gives everyone in the car the freedom to control the sound settings for their region individually, which is less energy-intensive as the sound does not have to travel far to each listener’s ears.
