A staggering 965 counterfeit bags and auto spare parts - illegally stored at a warehouse in Umm Al Thaub industrial area - were confiscated by inspectors of the department of economic development in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
“The contraband included 600 women handbags of famous international brands, along with 55 women bags of different sizes,” sources said.
The inspectors also found 10 cartons of auto spare parts and accessories of international brands, they added.
“Some of these were of Mercedes Benz and Toyota.”
Acting on a tip-off, the customer protection section formed a team and swung into action.
“The inspectors stormed the warehouse, and seized the fake items. The counterfeits were later destroyed.”
More inspection campaigns are to be carried out to crack down on attempts to mislead and con the customers, sources pointed out.
“All departments in the emirate spare no effort to protect rights of customers."
