The UAE reported 164 new coronavirus cases on Monday, its lowest daily total since April 1.

Officials confirmed a further 248 patients had beaten the virus as the recovery tally climbed to 54,863.

No patients died for the third consecutive day, as the death toll in the Emirates remained at 351.

The latest infections were identified after an additional 27,811 tests were carried out.

Coronavirus outbreak

The number of coronavirus cases nationwide now stands at 61,163.

The UAE has conducted close to 5.2 million Covid-19 tests since the outbreak began.

Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said during a media briefing on Monday that the country's patient recovery rate of 90 per cent is the best in the world.

He called on members of the public to continue to act responsibly to support frontline health workers leading the UAE's ongoing fight against the pandemic.

"Your commitment will create the difference. It is the main factor in supporting the work of the heroes, our first line of defence," he said.

"Failing to implement precautionary measures is the biggest challenge we face."

During the briefing, residents were reminded of the importance of boosting their immune system to guard against the virus, by exercising regularly, getting sufficient sleep, eating healthily and avoiding smoking.

Officials again reiterated the importance of wearing face masks to limit the spread of the virus.
