Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - The 39-year-old tourist just arrived in Dubai when she experienced severe neck pain.

When a 39-year-old mother arrived in Dubai for a planned holiday with her husband and two kids, little did she know she was going to be admitted to Al Zahra Hospital for a major emergency brain surgery saving her from a life-threatening ruptured aneurysm.

On the same day of her arrival in Dubai, and after checking into her hotel, Lindsey suffered from a strong headache and an unbearable neck pain.

"The medical team at my hotel knew something was clearly wrong so they rushed me to the nearest hospital," the patient stated. The British mother went to the Emergency Room (ER) at Al Zahra Hospital (AZHD) where they immediately conducted a brain CT scan revealing rare subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH) and a subsequent hydrocephalus - meaning her brain was not able to deal with the excess fluid it had produced.

Dr. Mohamed Khamis, ICU Specialist at AZHD, and the patient's primary care physician, ordered an urgent CT brain angiography which showed Basilar Artery Aneurysm.

With a severe increase in her high blood pressure and a deteriorating conscious level, the patient was admitted to the ICU for crucial control of her symptoms. She was then moved to a Catheter Lab for emergency Interventional Coiling of the aneurysm under sedation and ventilation by Dr. Ayman Sibae, Consultant Interventional Radiology at AZHD. On the same day, Dr. Sebouh Kassis, AZHD's Neurosurgeon Specialist performed surgical insertion of External Ventricular Drain (EVD) and intracranial pressure monitoring device under general anesthesia.

After ten days in the ICU, she was safely transferred to a medical ward under the supervision of Dr. Ceaser, her Neurology Consultant. Following the stabilization of her case, she was cleared for discharge - which was great news for Lindsey and her family.

"I will never forget what the medical team did to me. My doctors made the right decisions at the right time with a team of fantastic people to operate on my brain and stop my bleeding. The ICU nurses brightened my long boring days with their care and compassion. What remarkable doctors you have in Dubai! I am very grateful to be alive and with my family today," Lindsey expressed.
