Cyberpunk 2077 puts heavy demands on PC hardware

The role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt RED has been available since December 10th and places high demands on the PC hardware. Some AMD Ryzen CPUs are apparently not fully exhausted, as reported by Tom’s hardware, among other things. This was noticed by Reddit users, who also submitted a suitable fix for the problem on Sunday.
The ideal gaming processor: Buying tips for AMD and Intel CPUs from 100 euros
The problem: Cyberpunk 2077 does not use all available threads on some AMD Ryzen CPUs, but only the physical cores of the processors. This is due to the way Cyberpunk 2077 identifies the processor in the computer when it starts. The GPU Open Software Suite is used for this purpose, which checks whether it is an AMD Bulldozer CPU or not. If not, then the game can only use fewer threads while the remaining threads are not being used. This check of the CPU has an error. The problem only occurs with AMD Ryzen CPUs and not with Intel processors. By switching off the game’s faulty CPU check, performance can be increased by up to 20 percent, as explained in this Reddit post.
The “AMD-Fix” for Cyberpunk 2077, which was spread on Reddit, ensures that the game code no longer checks the CPU and distributes the load on all available cores and threads, regardless of whether the computer is an Intel or AMD processor plugged. To do this, the game exe must be called with a hex editor and the changes mentioned in the Reddit article must be made.
Important. You do this at your own risk and you should know what you are doing before making such a change.
The Cyberpunk 2077 developers will probably also officially solve this problem with one of the next updates, which should then increase the performance of Ryzen CPUs. In addition, the “AMD fix” does not always work.
These AMD Ryzen CPUs benefit from the unofficial AMD fix
Toms Hardware has tested the “AMD Fix” version 1.04 of Cyberpunk 2077 and was able to measure a performance increase of up to 20 percent on many Ryzen processors. However: With some Ryzen processors such as the Ryzen 9 5950X (16 cores, 32 threads), a lower performance was measured after activating the “AMD fix”, but this is not a problem because the performance is very good here anyway . According to the tests, the “AMD fix” does not have a positive effect on Ryzen CPUs with more than eight cores.
In contrast, the Ryzen 5 5600X (6 cores, 12 threads) showed an increase in performance: an acceleration of around 23 percent was measured, which is noticeable in an increase in frames per second and a smoother game. With the Ryzen 5 3600 XT (6 cores, 12 threads), the performance increased by 18 percent with the average measured images per second.
