Capcom did not give up on the idea

Here is a revelation which should not be without consequence: during the digital edition of the Tokyo Game Show 2020, Capcom declared “studying” the possibility of leaving Resident Evil Village sure PS4 and Xbox One. Either the older generation when the title appears.

Prior to its formalization, Resident Evil VIII, now known as Resident Evil Village, seemed to be able to be offered on both PS4 / Xbox One and the next generation. It was then indicated that the title was going to be a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series exclusive on consoles.

The information had material to encourage a certain number of players to consider more the purchase of a machine of new generation. And now, during a live broadcast held during the digital edition of the Tokyo Game Show 2020, Capcom made it clear that the old generation was not necessarily put aside for this next Resident Evil.

Capcom says it can’t promise Resident Evil Village on PS4 and Xbox One

In remarks transcribed by VGC, the producer of the game Tsuyoshi Kanda thus mentioned the possibility of seeing Resident Evil Village on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“While Resident Evil Village is specifically developed for next-generation consoles and PCs, we are looking to deliver the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well”.

“We are studying the matter, but we cannot promise anything. However, we will do our best to create a high level survival horror experience on current generation consoles ”, added Mr. Kanda.

The respective releases of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series being very close, the producer could just as easily think of these machines as of the PS4 / Xbox One when speaking of “Current generation consoles”.

Either way, such statements could encourage PS4 and Xbox One owners to wait until their platform is served. Especially knowing how brilliantly Capcom manages to offer major titles on less powerful media. For example, we can remember Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Super Nintendo and Super Street Fighter IV for Nintendo 3DS.
