Mac: Record Sales Thanks to MacBook Pros

Not even hurt ! The health crisis coupled with an economic crisis did not prevent Apple from announcing very good financial results this week. IPhone sales are hard, because of the late release of the 2020 range. Don’t panic, with growth of 28% and 46% respectively, the Mac and iPad have taken over!

Never before has the Mac division generated such sales in a quarter: $ 9 billion, a growth of 27% compared to the same period last year. At the conference following the publication of the results, Luca Maestri did not fail to point out that sales of computers stamped with an apple had experienced double-digit growth all over the world. Apple has never generated such sales during its fourth quarter in Europe and Japan. Better yet, this was the best quarter overall for Mac sales in North America and Asia-Pacific.

To explain these good performances, in addition to the COVID-19 crisis which pushed many people to equip themselves, Tim Cook mentioned the “aggressive” (sic) promotion campaign of Back to School, which allowed him to sell tremendously from MacBook Air to MacBook Pro. No wonder this when you consider that laptop computer sales make up the vast majority of computer sales.

For Apple, the timing is happy. This need for equipment more than offset the announcement of the switch to Apple Silicon architecture, which could have had a negative impact on sales in the short term. The performance is all the more exceptional given that in the last twelve months, the Mac range has not seen any huge changes except for the arrival of the MacBook Pro 16 ”. However, it should be noted that overall the range is slightly cheaper than in the recent past and slightly better endowed. As such, perhaps the best example is the MacBook Air, whose entry-level model has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD. Correct conditions to work at a reasonable price (1199 €) for Apple. And on the refurb, this same machine is sold for € 1,019. It remains to be seen whether this “accommodating” commercial policy will continue with the Apple Silicon Macs or whether Apple will charge dearly for its new products.
