‘Among Us’ has to steal this polarizing ‘Overwatch’ feature

The social withdrawal game Between us Turn friends into enemies by competing against each other on board a spaceship. Each game begins with the players being assigned the role of a “crewmate” who has to complete a list of tasks, or the “impostor” whose goal it is to murder the entire crew.

Playing as a cheat is the most challenging but exciting of the two roles as you have to kill everyone else without arousing suspicion. There’s nothing like being rushed to blame someone in a lobby for your dirty work, but the chances of getting the imposter role are slim compared to your chances of becoming a crew member.

But a polarization feature Overwatch could fix this and do it Between us Even more fun for those addicted to being the bad guy.

Developer InnerSloth should add a Roll queuing system Like in Blizzard’s shooter, where players can choose to be a cheater or a crew member, and automatically populate lobbies. As it is Between us Fans must either join or set up public lobbies or play a private match with their groups of friends. Getting up to nine other people to sign up at the same time can be a challenge, and public lobbies have a notoriously tricky connection.

A role queue could make it easier for players who only want to play a short role Between us Session to quickly join a lobby. Plus, the players are guaranteed to be classified as cheats the next time they play, which is currently impossible.

Between us Randomly picks players’ roles, meaning there is no special trick that players can use to influence their chances of being the cheater unless they change some game settings in their own lobby. Even then, they’d have to recruit their friends to join or wait for others, which could be difficult when playing a funky rule-set.

Adding a role queue ensures that the next game players can act as killers and play a public game quickly, two improvements over the current status of Between us. However, there could be a problem: the waiting times for scammers would be much longer than for crew members.

Overwatch has a similar problem with the role queue, especially for players who want to play damaging characters instead of tank or support characters. When entering the queue for a DPS character, especially in competitive mode, you will likely have to wait at least a few minutes to be sorted into a match. But at least there is a 100 percent guarantee that you will be able to play as the kind of character you want.

Since every game of Between us must have fewer cheaters than crew members to start with and most players prefer to be cheaters. The queue of the cheat roles is of course more saturated.

On all platforms, while potential scammers will most likely have to wait a few minutes, there are so many active players that waiting times may not be as frustrating as in Overwatch.
