Apple revealed its revised 5G-capable iPhone 12along with his Mini-Variant and Pro models while Event on Tuesdayand the company highlighted the “ceramic shield” protection on the devices. It’s basically Apple’s equivalent to the Gorilla Glass Victus used by Samsung.
According to Apple, it’s “harder than any smartphone glass” and “makes the iPhone more durable than ever,” with four times better drop performance – aka, it’s less likely to crack if (when) you drop it .

The glass ceramic material was manufactured by Corning in collaboration with Apple and consists of nano ceramic crystals embedded in the glass matrix. It’s highly transparent, Corning said in an email to CNET, and the hard structure of the crystals means it is less likely to break.
“The new material from Corning is the world’s first transparent, color-free glass-ceramic that offers optical performance suitable as a cover material for smartphones,” a spokesman said in a statement. “The ideal cover material for a smartphone is highly transparent, resists errors and retains its strength so that it does not break if damaged. We invented a new material in the world – a glass-ceramic combines the best properties of ceramic and glass to achieve unprecedented performance on smartphones. ”
The flagship iPhone 12that is smaller, thinner and lighter than that iPhone 11will retail for $ 799 and the iPhone 12 Mini is $ 699. The ceramic shield, however, seems to be most important on the $ 999 iPhone 12 Pro and the $ 1,099 iPhone Pro Max, which Apple identified as the ideal phones for photographers.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be Available for pre-sale October 16 to October 23. The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max can be pre-ordered from November 6th and will ship from November 13th.
