Team GO Rocket Strange Eggs Event

Strange eggs are in Pokémon GO, owned by Team GO rocket leader! Team Instinct’s Leader Spark is conducting an investigation to learn more about these new 12km eggs.

The event features new Shadow Pokémon, a chance to catch a Shadow Mewtwo, changes to the GO Rocket Grunt and Leader lineups, and a new breed of PokéEgg.

To help Spark and Professor Willow learn more from October 12-19, Trainers will have the opportunity to take part in a new Team GO Rocket Special Research that culminates in a fight with Giovanni himself. Let’s see what’s new!

Publisher’s Note: The official artwork shows a Pawniard chilling between GO Rocket PokéStops. It seems that Pawniard might make a surprise appearance during this event, although this is not mentioned in the official text.

Strange eggs and 1/4 hatching distance

Weird Eggs are in Pokémon GO! Defeat a Team GO rocket leader to get a strange egg and walk 12 km to hatch it. You must have space in your egg inventory prior to your battle against Sierra, Cliff, or Arlo to get a Strange Egg. Strange Eggs will still be available in Pokémon GO after the event ends.

According to Spark’s early research, the following is true GiftPokémon of the type darkType Pokémon and Pokémon that acquire one of these types through Evolution can hatch from these eggs: Larvitar, Scraggy, Trubbish, and Vullaby – although there may be more!

Eggs laid in incubators during the event will take a quarter of the normal walking distance to hatch. Strange eggs take 12 km to hatch, which if incubated during the event hours is reduced to 3 km.

Increased Poison and Dark spawns

Choose Gift and darkType-Type Pokémon are more common in the wild. The following Pokémon have been confirmed in the official Niantic blog post:

Giovanni and Shadow Mewtwo

Shadow Mewtwo

Finally, defeat Giovanni to save Shadow Mewtwo! This is the first time Shadow Mewtwo has been available in Pokémon GO outside of the Rocket Straight to Victory Special Research, which was exclusive to Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

You can find out more about Shadow Mewtwo here: Shadow Mewtwo Meta-Analyse.

Farewell words and changes after the event

After this event begins on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), you can save Shadow Mewtwo and Shadow Pokémon from Giovanni, the Team GO Rocket Leaders and Grunts if those Teams GO Rocket- Members control Team GO rocket balloons.

However, you cannot meet the new Shadow Pokémon or Shadow Mewtwo from Team GO Rocket Leaders from PokéStops until the next day in your local time.
