Players looking to build a new gaming rig on a tight budget need to reserve as much money as possible for the graphics card. Therefore, a CPU without an integrated GPU is both desirable and inexpensive. Intel just quietly unveiled a new Core i3 that’s just right for AMD and causing a headache.
As Toms Hardware reports, Intel has not yet added this new Core i3-10100F to its main price list, but we estimate it will cost between $ 79 and $ 97. In return, you get an eight-thread quad-core processor that runs at 3.6 GHz and increases to 4.3 GHz with a TDP of 65 W.
AMD is the answer to why Intel introduced this new processor. You may recall that AMD released the Ryzen 3 3300X earlier this year. PCMag’s review found the 3300X to be a “top CPU contender for anyone building a fast, yet budget-conscious AMD AM4-based gaming desktop.” This chip also has no GPU, runs at 3.8 GHz and increases to 4.3 GHz and offers four cores and eight threads. While the 3300X has 16MB of L3 cache compared to the 6MB of the 10100F, it is losing price.
The Core i3-10100F poses two problems for AMD’s $ 120 3300X. The first is Intel’s chip, which costs between $ 23 and $ 41 less and offers comparable performance. The second is availability as the 3300X is generally out of stock everywhere, which has been the case for months. If Intel can get the 10100F available right now and go for a $ 79 price tag, the 3300X really doesn’t look that good anymore.
