Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al-jassim revealed what he told Mohamed Salah after booking him in the Club World Cup final.

Salah helped Liverpool lift their first ever Club World Cup, when they beat Brazil’s Flamengo 1-0 in the final.

The Egyptian received his first booking of the season in the final after tackling a Flamengo player. The match official, Abdelrahman Al-Jassem, revealed what he told Salah after showing him the yellow card.

“Salah is well mannered and one of a kind but that doesn’t change the rules of football,” said Al-jassim.

“When Salah challenged Flamengo’s player, I heard the assistant referee tell me ‘it’s a booking, it’s a booking, it’s a booking’.

“The play was very clear for me and I decided to book him and my assistant confirmed the decision.

“I went to Salah and told him ‘Mohamed, you deserved the yellow card’ to which he responded ‘I didn’t mean to tackle him’. I told him that I knew how respectful he was but he deserved the yellow card,” he concluded.

After having lifted the Club World Cup trophy, Salah will hope to help the Reds in their quest for the Premier League title. They remain unbeaten in the league and will face second-placed Leicester on Thursday December 26th.
