Ultras Lazio has issued a statement asking defender Francesco Acerbi to leave the club.
Acerbi was subjected to harsh criticism from the team’s fans after he signaled to them after his goal against Genoa to remain silent.
The player was then responding to criticism that he did not properly adapt to the defensive and tactical system used by coach Maurizio Sarri.
Acerby had commented: “I can’t care, it’s part of our business.”
Acerbi, 33, scored against Venezia and did not go with his team-mates to celebrate with the Lazio fans, who traveled to the floating city after the match.

Ultras Lazio issued a statement as follows:
“Acherby is a man without honor, he left Rome at once. No forgiveness for those who betray! This is not just a slogan, but much more than that. It means that the fans are worth more than the players, and that our flag is sacred!”
“Unfortunately, today’s players are used to that and have never seen a proper protest. We protested against Chinaglia, Nesta and Mijlovic (to name a few), the monuments of our history. We went to the changing rooms because some players, players with much more honor than a player from Chievo and Sassuolo (former Acerby clubs) did not respect us.”
“And are we supposed to allow the celebration to be overlooked and to disrespect a player who showed he despise an entire fan base? Acerbe silenced the Corva in the last game after months of support for the bitter end. Today, as a man, he had the opportunity to apologize with the crowd of 3,000 Lazio fans.”
Instead, at the end of the match, he walked away like a rabbit while the other players came to cheer with us, he retreated when a sincere apology was enough. The fact that Acerbi is an important player in Lazio does not matter to us. What matters to us is race, grit and respect. That is why, as of today Francesco Acerbi is no longer welcome here in Rome.”
“As long as he’s here, he’ll be booed, in every game! Who knows how many you’ve seen and how many you’ll see, sad players who have never won. Acerbi go away! Ultras Lazio”.
Acerbi participated in 160 matches with the Eagles of the Italian capital since joining from Sassuolo, scoring 9 goals and winning the Cup and the Super Cup in 2019.
The 33-year-old defender was also among Italy’s Euro 2020 winners.
