Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Al Ahly’s board member Mohamed El-Garhy has revealed that Arsène Wenger praised Ayman Ashraf for his performance against Al-Duhail.
The Reds have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2020 Club World Cup after beating hosts Al Duhail 1-0, thanks to Hussein El-Shahat’s strike.

During the first-half, Al Ahly totally dominated the game and could have scored once again, but the VAR ruled out Walter Bwalya’s strike for offside.
It was in the second-half when the defensive line led by, Ayman Ashraf, Badr Benoun, and Mohamed El-Shennawy were needed on more than one occasion to secure the win for the Cairo giants.
Therefore team vice-captain Ayman Ashraf was awarded the Man of the Match award for his exceptional defensive performance which kept both Michael Olunga and Almoez Ali quiet all game.
And it looks like his performance didn’t go unnoticed by Arsenal’s legendary manager Arsène Wenger, who was in the stands watching the game.
Following the final whistle, the Reds’ board member Mohamed El-Garhy posted on Facebook that Wenger had hailed both Al Ahly and their defender Ayman Ashraf.

“With one of the greatest football manager in history,” the post stated.
“Professor Arsene Wenger, who brought glory to Arsenal and the Gunners’ manager of their historical team.
“He delighted me with his praise of Al Ahly and especially Ayman Ashraf.
“Congratulations to Al Ahly and their fans,” it added.
Ashraf, 29, is a product of Al Ahly youth sector, having been promoted to the first-team in 2012, before spending a four-year spell at Smouha.
Overall with the Reds, he made over 150 games, winning five league titles, one CAF Champions League, one Egypt Cup, and one Egypt Super Cup.

Ashraf will hope to replicate today’s performance when the Reds’ face European champions Bayern Munich Monday, February 8 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
