Julian Alaphilippe and Primoz Roglic each win a Golden Bike

The prestigious Golden Bike trophies, awarded by Bicycle Magazine and rewarding the best runners of the year, were awarded to Julian Alaphilippe (Vélo d’or France) and Primoz Roglic (Vélo d’Or Monde).

Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quickstep), world champion and winner of the second stage of the Tour de France and the Flèche Brabançonne, won his second consecutive French trophy. Last year, he achieved the double by also winning the international trophy, which he must leave this year to Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), the world number 1 champion of Slovenia at the end of the season and who also won (among others) the Tour of Spain and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, after taking second place in the Tour de France.

Logical choice in the eyes of the runners themselves

Wout Van Aert and Remco Evenepoel were also among the 15 “finalists” for this trophy, awarded on the basis of votes from international cycling journalists. But we will have to wait a little longer to find a successor to Philippe Gilbert, the last Belgian winner of this World Golden Bike, in 2011.
